I have learned that the Internet is the source of all known knowledge – or at least most of it. Since getting into the Internet “business” ten plus years ago it’s been both wonderful and unnerving to realize that within moments I can look up an obscure author’s name, the recipe for a Mediterranean pastry or what the chemical make-up of DHA is.

This all said, I’d like you all to define this word (posed to me earlier) without looking it up online. If you have a print dictionary within arms reach you’re allowed to look (but I’m guessing 99.97% of you don’t).

So, the word of the day is:

penumbra

  1. Cool. I will have to try and remember this one. I have become an extreme fan of google’s define query.

I agree. Being able to have just about any piece of knowledge at my fingertips is very powerful.

  2. The shadow of the Moon, cast on the Earth during a solar eclipse. Alternatively, the shadow of the Earth cast upon the Moon during a lunar eclipse.
